Point Grey TFC's Ben Thistlewood won the Remembrance Day Run on November 11, 2010 at Stanley Park, a race put on by the Hershey Harriers Athletic Club.
On this day of remembrance, Thistlewood seemed like he was on a quest to be remembered as well. He covered the one-lap 8-kilometers cross country course in just under 27 minutes, leading from start to finish.
Commenting on his race, Thistlewood said, "I know the Stanley Park trails pretty well, because I've trained out there lots of times with the UBC team, so I knew what to expect on the course. I just wanted to go out hard and try for the win."
"I hope when people take some time to remember our veterans today, they will also take the time to remember my race, and how awesome it was," he joked.
The Masters race started 10-minutes earlier than the Open race, so runners from the later race could catch runners from the earlier race along the course.
"It was nice passing runners and hearing their encouragement. Overall it was a fun race, well-organized, and I hope to do it again," Thistlewood added.
