Point Grey Track fields strong team for Nationals

After a third-place showing at the 2011 National Championships, the senior men of Point Grey Track will be going for the win on Saturday at the 2012 Canadian Cross Country Championships at Jericho Beach park in Vancouver. The squad for Saturday’s race looks to be the strongest team in the programs brief history.

Leading the team through the 10-kilometre course will be veterans Sam Pawluk, a member of Team BC, and SFU alumni Kevin Friesen. Last year, Pawluk qualified for the Canadian National team that travelled to the NACAC Championships in Trinidad and Tobago. Both runners will be gunning for a spot on the 2013 Senior Men’s team that will compete at the World Cross Country Championships in Poland.

Ryan Brockerville and Dylan Gant- also former competitors for SFU- join the team this year and should help to strengthen the team’s overall depth.

Coming off a couple All-American performances at the NAIA Cross Country Championships in Washington, Luc Bruchet and Tim Huebsch will bring to the squad race sharpness. Bruchet was 3rd at NAIA’s while Huebsch placed 26th.

Ryan Huff, a member of Team BC, and former UBC thunderbird Theo Hunt are Point Grey runners to look out for on Saturday.

Point Grey Track will field one junior athlete, as Devin Rajala will compete for Team BC in the Junior Men’s 8-kilometre championship race.
