2013 Canadian XC Championships Preview – Women's 7kmPublished by
Vancouver – 2013 marks the third consecutive year that Vancouver has played host to the Canadian Cross Country Championships.
Point Grey placed sixth at last year’s championships cumulating 73 points with an average team time of 26 minutes and 31 seconds. Athletics Toronto dominated the meet winning with a score of 13 points placing all four scoring runners in the top six. Megan Brown was the individual winner running 23 minutes and five seconds for the 7km course.
The team will be lead by Sabrina Wilkie who placed tenth at last years Canadian XC championships and strong results in 2013 indicate she’s on track to once again challenge for a top ten position. Wilkie was ninth at the Zoo Oasis Run 10km, which served as the Canadian 10km Championships. She was also ninth at the 2013 Vancouver Sun Run running 34 minutes 37 seconds in the process.
UBC athletes Maggie Woodward, Rhiannon Evans, Heather Slinn, and Kirsten Lee look to contribute to the Point Grey Team after a strong fall cross-country season with the Thunderbirds. Both Woodward and Evans have eclipsed the 18-minute barrier for 5km this season running 17 minutes 54 seconds and 55 seconds, respectively. Look for Slinn to make her debut in cross-country for Point Grey, after representing them well in the 2012 summer track season. 2012 veteran Lee looks to build on last year’s performance over the 7km distance.
Jenn Moroz, the fifth scorer on the 2012 squad, has recently run 38 minutes for 10km at the Vancouver Eastside Run, good for eighth overall, and looks to build on that fitness come November 30.
Returning team members Jennifer McCormack and Lissa Zimmer will provide depth to an improving Point Grey squad looking to build on their sixth place performance from last year. Devan Wiebe will also be making her XC debut for Point Grey after running for the team during this past summers track season
Point-Grey TFC club was started in 2010 to provide the environment, opportunity, and resources for UBC alumni, post-collegiate, elite high school, and master athletes to continue training and competing, and attain new heights in their athletic careers.
The senior women’s 7km race is set to go off at 1:50 p.m. November 30
