Point Grey men look to defend national title

Senior Women’s 8k 1:40pm, Jericho Beach Park

The Point Grey Track Club women’s team will be looking to improve on their past two bronze medal performances (2012, 2013) in the senior women’s race this Saturday at the Canadian Cross Country Championships. Led by Amelie de Fenoyl and Rhiannon Evans, Point Grey will face stiff competition from the University of Calgary Athletic Club (UCAC). A strong UCAC team led by national team member Jessica O’Connell and UBC star Maria Bernard will present a challenge to the women from Point Grey. This will be the first time of the year that UBC teammates de Fenoyl and Bernard face off against each other for different teams. Point Grey will have home course advantage at Jericho though Bernard is no stranger to the course either. This will be one hotly contested race that you cannot afford to miss.

Senior Men’s 10km 2:30pm, Jericho Beach Park

Led by national team stars Lucas Bruchet and Kelly Wiebe, the Point Grey men are sure to be the favorites standing in the way of other teams in the Senior men’s 10km run. The men will be looking to defend their national championship but will face strong competition from Speed River Track Club. Leading the charge for Speed River will be Chris Winter and Taylor Milne. Point Grey runners Theo Hunt and Kevin Friesen will look to spoil Speed River’s party and keep the championship banner out West. This race gets underway at 2:30pm and is the final marquee event of the day.
